The volunteers assist in the running of the “Open House” where they
supply food, chat with the clients, offer advice when required, collect food and
pack parcels ready to give away. They also assist Henry Nissen, our
Outreach Worker, on a Sunday evening when a bus is used to take food to the young
and homeless in the Garden City Area. The volunteers also keep a record
of those that use the “Open House” service, which averages 125 clients
per week. All fund raising is by a volunteer group on a “fund raising committee”.
Anne Amos, the Administration Manager, manages the “Open House”
volunteers and runs a roster for the people who give their time each week. Volunteers
who work on the streets with Henry Nissen are under his management. The volunteers
come from the local area usually by word of mouth or are attracted by press articles.
No formal training is required.
As our volunteers do the work to assist those in need they do not look for any
recognition outside the personal satisfaction received. For more information
on becoming a volunteer, please contact Anne Amos at the Emerald Hill Mission
on 03 9682 9600. |
